Court Reporter Arrested

271st District Court Reporter Jeff Goodwyn, 56, of Decatur was arrested for possession of a controlled substance early Friday morning. Goodwyn was arrested at 1:50 a.m. at a motel in Decatur after delivering illegal drugs to an undercover DPS agent. Following Goodwyn’s arrest officers searched his home and found drug paraphernalia in the basement. According to police, there were no other arrests, but the investigation is continuing. Computers were also confiscated during the raid. Additionally, the investigation has been ongoing for several weeks. Goodwyn earns $86,000 a year as a court reporter in the 271st District Court. Jeff attends First Baptist Church of Decatur. Our prayers go out to Jeff and his family during this troubled time in his life and our hope is that this incident will give him the impetus to turn his life around.

  1. This shows how if you scratch the surface in Wise county, you'll find corruption underneath. Not to say there aren't some good folks, but when you get the same old jurists and lawyers and judges hanging around for thirty+ years, you'll find an imbedded system of wink and nod. Others need to go too...

    1. I have tapes of our current sheriff telling me we don't enforce Texas Penal Code 25.03. Breaking this Law is a criminal, but will never be enforced, which means its ok to break this criminal Law. I went to the D.A. office and they said they would enforce but my guess They sent it to the grand jury who also refused to enforce arrest for breaking this law, I called our Local House Rep out of weatherford and he said the police will never enforce this law. I wonder why they bothered to spend all our tax dollars on house and senate to create and pass a law they never intend to enforce. This has to do with my divorce and why laws are in place to enforce child custody access and the laws on the books to make sure my court order is enforced but no way will the law enforcement enforce the law they swore to uphold. So I went to the house and senate, oh, the senator said I want to know why they arn't enforcing the laws we passed and He said he will call me back (I have all these things I'm describing here on audio video tape for proof). I have followed up and my call never gets returned after. So I guess they are supposed to act concerned but really don't care about the people who they represent. As for this court reporter. I remember when my divorce hearing or one of them I should say I was unclear about what the judge wanted from us and I asked my lawyer to ask and get clear understanding from the judge but my lawyers said did you see how mad the judge was and I said ask anyway so we know what to do. My lawyer didn't. I said to this court reporter what are we supposed to do and he snapped back at me like how dare I even speak to him or wish to clarify what we are to do. Well Jeff now its your turn to have someone be cruel to you. We are all watching and waiting to see if you get special treatment because of the job you used to have.

    2. The city picks and chooses the laws that it enforces too. I've contacted council members in Decatur and even the mayor about genuine concerns and issues and they done the exact same thing....act concernedthen no return call. Need an upgrade....Time to vote them out.

  2. It'll be interesting to see who'll be chosen to represent Goodwyn. My guess is it'll be like the corrupt defending the corrupt before the corrupt. This is gonna be good stuff. Too bad the local media will bury all the dirty details.

  3. Well that's just too bad. It's what happens when you let your bad habits rule your behavior. Knowing the guy, homo-sex probably had something to do with it. Drug addiction and loose sex...

  4. They're going to bury this deal. Trial's been moved to Denton County where it can be hidden. Somebody needs to take a flamethrower to Wise County Courthouse and half the lawyer offices on the square.

  6. My name is Angela Hamal I received a 35 year sentence for possession of a controlled substance 4.98 grams meth. The dope was not mine and didn't even know it was in my car. I asked for fingerprint and DNA evidence at my fiasco of a trial. Of course I lost. While sitting in prison for 4 years I appealed it and won a new trial. What I want to share is the part that this pervert monster played in my appeal process. What he does for $86,000.00 a year. Appeals cannot be filed without the record of the trial. This man filed 4 extensions of time to file the record and evidence. They were all filed late. Then after he was told that he wouldn't be granted another extension of time he asked for another one anyway. Well it still didn't get any better after this once everything was filed and my attorney begins to write my appeal evidence and important document were missing and it took more time to get those filed and the record supplemented. It was the police videos of trooper Riggs and Deputy Payne and his bogus no dope finding pet. Two hours sniffing my car and the dog didn't find anything. I can't stop laughing at that... And I guess I can understand why they wouldn't want the appeals court to see that scam. I also want to state that when I won a new trial on my first appeal it was because I didn't receive a fair trial in Wise county. The DA re-appealed to the Texas court of criminal appeals and they took the new trial away. During this appeal process I came up for parole and was sent to a drug treatment program. I haven't used drugs in over 20 years. I've never used meth. They don't even have a single one drug test that even says that meth has been in my system/body. I'm. Continuing to fight my case. Also I believe that I read that Tim Cole the DA has been to jail for DUI's... I'm really impressed with these people who send others to prison with life sentences for the same things their doing. Thanks for reading...

  7. I was asked this afternoon, by someone out of Wise County, "what ever happened to the Court Reporter that was arrested for selling drugs". Well because I didn't remember hearing anything in quite a while I went online to "The Wise County Court Database" which also includes jail and bond records. To my surprise Jeffrey M. Goodwyn's name did not show on any of the records. Since a post above suggested that the matter had been moved to Denton County, I also checked their records. Found nothing. So now I am very interested in learning what is going on. Think I will see if "The Messenger" knows anything. And if they don't maybe need to be asking Sheriff and DA's offices. If anyone know anything I would enjoy hearing what you know here on this forum.
    Thanks,
