Were Students Smarter 100 years ago?

Students at Denver's Metropolitan State University were unable to answer questions taken from a basic knowledge test administered to 8th graders in 1912, which was reprinted by Smithsonian Magazine earlier this month.

A democratic republic works best when the populace is literate and understands how its government works. This allows the citizens to participate effectively in their representative government. Otherwise, said government is no longer representative, but becomes tyrannical.

Uninformed idiocracy rules in the current USA with no end in sight.
